Haysboro
The homeowners featured in this landscape renovation had recently purchased a beautifully updated bungalow on a large lot in the Calgary neighbourhood of Haysboro. In the front they sought to reduce the amount of lawn while enhancing the homes curb appeal with a preference for natural elements such as rocks, wood, and architecturally striking plants. In order to further enjoy the front yard sitting area some separation between private and public needed to be considered.
The beauty of renovating in an older neighborhood is that the backyards are often wonderfully spacious; and space we had. The home owners envisioned a back yard that would be an entertaining oasis. A designated barbeque and dining area was a must as well as a shaded retreat for relaxing and socializing. Although there was a workable existing deck we did present 2 concepts that included expanding on the deck size. In the end the homeowners chose to keep the existing deck and adopt the destination pergola sitting area surrounded by lawn and lush plantings.
Privacy was a key consideration on one side of the property which was solved by adding a series of attractive wood screens that could support climbing plant material.
Vegetable troughs were tried in various positions in the 3 concepts presented. The homeowner took the time to watch their back yard to determine where the best spot would be. Placing them up against the house shifted the pergola a little deeper into the yard.
Following our installation, the homeowners had beautifully landscaped front and back yards that truly enhanced their newly renovated home.
