West Hillhurst

This property is located in the Calgary community of West Hillhurst. The family are repeat clients of ours having completed a landscape for them in 2016. With a new home comes a new landscape. The clients were looking for a revamp of a back yard that was simply not meeting their needs. They needed more entertaining areas, wanted to include a hot tub, outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit. With two dogs they also wanted a designated artificial turf area for them. On the positive side the property is a generous size and had mature trees providing both privacy and shade. They wanted the existing deck and pergola replaced but they did not want a lot of plant material to care for.  

The concepts were prepared with various options for how to layout the yard and of course options as to size and style of the pergola, decking materials and pavers. We played with increasing the deck so that much of the action was on the deck, showed one with lawn but in the other two there was no lawn and minimal plant material. This was a really fun project to work on, mostly because of the dogs. In the end the clients chose the concept with a sunken hot tub, raised planters and plenty of entertaining space.   Included were outdoor lighting and an outdoor kitchen to accommodate the must have Egg Smoker. 

The project took three weeks to complete and the homeowners were thrilled with the outcome. As mentioned, the homeowners wanted minimal plant material which was confined to the raised planters only. This had the added benefit of separating the various rooms of the landscaped design.
